Nikkie de Jager can hardly believe that she was one of the lucky ones at the annual excellant lunch today. Together with 25 other Dutch people, including writer Lale Gül, speed skater Antoinette de Jong and NOS weather forecaster Gerrit Hiemstra, she was invited by the royal couple to Noordeinde Palace.
26 Dutch people were invited to Noordeinde Palace who recently received a prize or other award for their achievements in sports, science and culture.
For example, Gül was invited because she won the NS Public Award 2021 for her book I’m going to live, Nikkie for winning the Televizier-Ster Presentatrice, Hiemstra for winning the Machiavelli Prize 2021 and Krol because he became both world champion and Olympic champion. Speed skaters Xandra Velzeboer and Antoinette de Jong, radio producer Stefan Stasse and actor Joost Spijkers were also guests.
“What an incredible honor to have lunch with the King and Queen of the Netherlands, along with other inspiring individuals at the annual Outliers Lunch,” Nikkie writes in her Instagram Stories, sharing a photo of herself on the red carpet in front of the palace. In another photo she is together with all the other guests and Willem-Alexander and Máxima. “How can this be real?” she added.
Antoinette de Jong is also honored that she has been invited for lunch, ‘with only nice people’, she says on Instagram with a photo of her and De Jager.
However, not only well-known Dutch people were invited. This year, for example, the Teachers of the Year 2021 in primary, secondary and special education and senior secondary vocational education, the architect of the year, the best local administrator and the winners of the Johannes Vermeer Prize were invited. With lunch, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima would like to express their recognition and appreciation for the special achievements that this group has delivered.
